The Necrophage lack subtly and nuance, but they do one thing very, very well, and it's fun when you do it with them.This is a Civilization-style turn-based grand strategy game, where you build cities, explore a map, meet rivals, engage in diplomacy, and achieve some form of military, technological, or diplomatic victory, although itвЂ™s not a direct clone and puts its own spin on those game mechanics-which can be initially confusing. Still, it's a fun way forВ those playing against the AI to play through and earn the Necrophage-specific achievements and is the easiest way to get the elimination and supremacy victories. There's something strangely satisfying about watching your army swell and overwhelm everything, leaving Auriga a barren husk in your wake.В Granted, players opposing the Necrophages know to wipe them out early to avoid dealing with the later chance of overwhelming numbers. Once you get that momentum going, the Necrophages become an unstoppable tidal wave, conquering opponents through sheer numbers (which is even required to complete their faction quest). Make sure these guys have plenty of protection, then go around chowing down on roving armies before turning your attention to your opponents. Proliferators have the chance to turn any dead opponents into fresh units called Battle Born, making it very easy to have an overwhelming force suddenly. They also get the Proliferator unit in this stage, which is basically the key to winning the game. Fortunately, in the second tech stage, the Necrophages get the tech 'Cannon Fodder,' which reduces army cost. You can't progress in the game without focusing at least a little on the technology tree food is important, obviously, but the military and gold-generating techs are important as well since you're going to have to pay for that army. With that in mind, it's important to focus on upgrading and leveling units before going out and chowing down on the minor factions. Like the other factions, growth is slow at first-but unlike the other factions, if the Necrophages don't get any traction early on, it's easy for them to be crushed underfoot. Now that we've gotten rid of the need to be nice to the neighbors, it's also important to be conscientious of the Necrophages' own strengths and weaknesses. You won't miss it, though it takes too long to get most of those quests anyway. Necrophages throw out that pesky diplomacy tree and all tech that goes with it. Unlike factions such as the Cultists or the Allayi, who thrive on small, compacted playthroughs, the Necrophages need to be constantly roving the overworld since they can't just rely on their settlements to provide enough food for reliable growth. How the Necrophages' gameplay is constructed suits this approach as well. Tailored to fit a more warlike playstyle, the Necrophages can be used to win the other victories, such as expansion, economic, wonder or near-impossibly diplomatic, but it's more fun to just run roughshod over the world and eat everybody. With that in mind, the buglike Necrophages can be extremely fun to play.
